Spotlight: Rowan Smith

I’m Rowan Smith, the proud owner of Rowan Smith Mortgage Broker - City Wide Mortgage Services. I look forward to sharing my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.

I got into the mortgage business back in 2006, when my father, a real estate agent, encouraged me to leave the bank. I had worked in the banking industry for seven years at that point and consistently saw mortgage professionals making a lot more than I did in treasury. So, I figured I would jump in with both feet, take the risk, and see if I could make it. The rest, as they say, is history.

In the sixteen years I have been into mortgage lending, the business has evolved and changed considerably. It used to be a lot easier to get mortgages approved, and nowadays, regulations have increased, and rules are more stringent. Clients also have more choices and are better informed than before.

I love being of service to my clients. Knowing I’ve helped someone raise the funds they need and get into their first home gives me much fulfillment. My business philosophy is “if you do what is in your clients’ best interests, success, profitability, and happiness will undoubtedly follow.

As an individual, I believe what sets me apart from others is that I think doing mortgages is a lot like doing a puzzle. You have to figure out where a person’s situation fits because no two are ever the same.

I attribute my success to my commitment to clarity when explaining what I am doing for my customers. Similarly, my honesty to my lenders about my clients’ ability to pay and the fact I tell the truth even if the news is not what they want to hear has built trust and credibility. My quick response time also ensures that my clients hardly have to wait for an answer and make decisions quickly and efficiently.

Recently a client came in who had been turned down by six banks. It was a lot of work to sort out his situation as it was very complex, and it took some time for him to follow my instructions and line up his finances, but once he did, success was inevitable and swift. Experiences like this have given me immense satisfaction over the years.

I have a few different hobbies and interests when I am not at work. I enjoy relaxing at home with my amazing girlfriend, our two dogs and a cat. I also love working on and restoring classic muscle cars and trucks, playing the guitar and lifting weights.

I have enjoyed sharing my story about the things which matter to me and how they influence the way I do business.
